Carbondale Area FBLA Excels at Regional Competition

Carbondale Area’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed in the virtual Regional Leadership Conference in January. Ms. Olivetti, Club Advisor, is proud to announce that Carbondale Area earned eleven First Place Awards; additionally, twenty-eight students who placed in the top three of their category qualified to compete at the State Leadership Conference.

Senior Anthony Mustica won the Political Science category.  “I was not expecting to be in first place, so it felt amazing to find out how well I did,” noted Mustica. “I have been interested in politics and government since 8th grade, but I never thought that it would put me in first place at something. Qualifying for a second year of states makes me feel accomplished and ready to test my knowledge at the next level.”

“I am extremely grateful that the FBLA advisors took the extra step to make sure we were still given the opportunity to test one last time during my last year in high school,” explained senior Alyvia Schiavone, who placed second in the Help Desk category and punched her ticket to states. “Although it was not the same with it being virtual, I still appreciate the fact that they took the time to make it happen. As two-time treasurer, I have been an active member of the club and have strived to do better every year. FBLA has been a memorable part of high school for me. Placing on the state level last year made me eager for this year’s testing, and I look forward to the outcome of this year’s state test results.”
