Emily Kelly places 9th at the FBLA National Competition

The Carbondale Area School District is proud to announce that rising senior Emily Kelly placed ninth at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Virtual National Leadership Conference in Networking Infrastructures. The Networking Infrastructure test included questions about: General Network Terminology and Concepts, Network Operating System Concepts, Network Security, Equipment for Network Access (Wi-Fi, wireless), OSI Model Functionality, and Network Topologies & Connectivity. As a junior last year, Emily placed first in her category at the FBLA Regional Leadership Conference in December, which qualified her to compete at the State Leadership Conference in April. At the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference, Emily was the State Champion. This qualified her to represent Carbondale Area and Pennsylvania at the Virtual National Leadership Conference this past June, where she competed against over 200 students from across the United States. Emily, with her ninth-place finish, is the first student in Carbondale Area history to place at the National Leadership Conference.

“Emily gives 110% in everything she pursues in her high school career,” explained Ms. Olivetti. “She sets high goals and standards for herself and accomplishes them. She also always looks to improve on her performance and does not get complacent. She is a member of FBLA, PJAS, where she earned a perfect score this year, Student Council, Spanish Club, SADD, and Science and Technology. She is also of member of Unified Track and Unified Bocce. Emily Kelly is currently ranked second in her class.”

“It was very exciting to hear that I had placed nationally in my category, and it was an honor to represent Carbondale Area,” noted Emily. “However, it was also a little disappointing that the FBLA National Conference was virtual instead of being held in-person in California. Overall, the experience of participating in FBLA has been a great one. I want to thank Miss Olivetti for everything she has done for FBLA at Carbondale Area and specifically for all the encouragement she has given me. “

The Carbondale Area School District congratulates Emily and Ms. Olivetti on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to the future accomplishments of both Emily and FBLA. #CAProud
