Valedictorian – Olivia Manarchuck

Olivia serves as President of Student Council, the Medical Careers Club and Carbondale Area’s SADD Chapter and is an officer and member of various other school and community organizations [full listing noted below]. Olivia has been a dedicated member of the Unified Track and Field and Bocce Teams, embracing and promoting the inclusion of all students to create an atmosphere and overall school culture in which students of all abilities are embraced, supported, and engaged. As a teen leader within the Carbondale and Greater Upper Valley’s PROSPER team – PROSPER referring to “Promoting School-community-university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience” – Olivia has long been a mentor for the younger program participants, displaying and modeling appropriate coping skills and problem-solving techniques while assisting the adult leaders with activities focusing on strengthening parent-child relationships and building youth life skills. Through her participation and involvement in PROSPER and in her faith community, Olivia has demonstrated a strong sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment. Olivia has been further involved in various state and national leadership conferences – including the Hugh O’Brien Youth [HOBY] Leadership Seminar – which have enhanced both her leadership and interpersonal skills along with her ability to collaborate and work with others to achieve a common goal or purpose. Olivia has consistently participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science [PJAS] wherein she has earned recognition at both the regional and state levels for her superior research, project development, and presentation.

Future Educational and Career Plans

Olivia will be attending The University of Scranton where she will major in Neuroscience within the Pre-Medical Professions Program. She aspires to later attend Medical School and would like to become a surgeon, specializing in Neurosurgery.


Salutatorian – Vanessa Sawyer

Throughout her academic career, Vanessa has stood among the top students in her class, consistently maintaining Honor Roll status, achieving the distinguished honor of being inducted into the National Honor Society, and further securing her place among the Distinguished Academic Honors Students at Carbondale Area. Diligently pursuing academic excellence, Vanessa continues to be an active participant in numerous extracurricular activities and various school and community organizations, including Band, more specifically Marching Band and Jazz Band; Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA]; Students Against Destructive Decisions [SADD]; Student Council; the Science and Technology and Spanish Clubs; and Prom Committee [full listing noted below]. Vanessa has also consistently participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science [PJAS] wherein she has also earned recognition at both the regional and state levels for her superior research, project development, and presentation. By and through said involvement and active participation, Vanessa has further developed her leadership and interpersonal skills along with her ability to collaborate and work with others to achieve a common goal or purpose and serve a particular function. Beyond the academic spectrum, Vanessa also maintains part-time employment; her promotion from a Team Member to a Shift Lead Manager, and most recently to General Manager, provides greater evidence of her profound sense of responsibility and leadership potential. She is passionate about helping others as demonstrated through her efforts within the organizations in which she is involved, especially as it relates to her generosity each Thanksgiving holiday, preparing dinner and spending time with those in our local community who do not have the means to prepare a meal or family with which to share it.

Future Educational and Career Plans

Vanessa is passionate about pursuing a degree in Nursing, likely at Misericordia University. Within the Nursing field, Vanessa would most like to work within a Trauma Unit. Vanessa also has the opportunity to continue working as a General Manager within the food service industry.
