Senior Spotlight: MaKena Sanderson

Our next Senior Spotlight is MaKena “Kena” Sanderson. MaKena is the daughter of Tracy Sanderson and Thomas Sanderson and has one sister, Alexa, who was the CA Class of 2015 Salutatorian. MaKena is a six-year member of both Academic Honors and the National Honor Society and ranks near the top of the class.

MaKena has been highly involved with extracurricular activities in her time here at CA. She is the Treasurer of the Future Teachers Club, where she has tutored before school on a weekly basis for the past three years. She also tutors after school on Wednesdays as a member of the Physics Club. She is a four-year member of the Unified Track & Field team and a three-year member of the Unified Bocce team. She is a six-year member of Student Council, a four-year member of the Science and Technology and Spanish Clubs, a three-year member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a three-year member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and a one-year member of the Library Club. She is also employed as a busser at Pete’s Place at the Manor right in town.

MaKena’s favorite CA memory is getting selected to the Homecoming Court. Her hobbies include driving to Starbucks to get her favorite pink drink, spending time with friends and family, shopping for candles and clothes, especially at Bath and Body, and getting her nails done. Her future plans are to attend Wilkes University to major in Nursing and potentially work as a Developmental Disabilities Nurse.

MaKena represents the Senior Class of 2022 at the annual homecoming ceremony this past fall.

The Carbondale Area School District congratulates MaKena on her achievements thus far and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” -MaKena Sanderson (quoting Walt Disney), Carbondale Area Class of 2022 #CarbondaleAreaClassof2022
