Students Compete at the PA Media and Design Competition

March 8, 2019

Five students from Carbondale Area will compete at the PA Media and Design Competition on March 12, 2019 held at Keystone College. This competition is sponsored by our local NEIU #19 and is an annual competition that showcases the many technologically talented students from all our local area schools. Julia Murphy, Gia Mark, Alyvia Schiavone, Aniela Connolly, & Mya Casey will represent CA at the contest next week. Each of these students did a graphic design for the logo to be used by the PA Media and Design Competition next year. They also used their graphic design to create a plethora of marketing essentials for their business. They created letterhead, an 11 X 17 poster, business cards, calendars, envelopes, flyers, and brochures. In addition, the students had to silk-screen their graphic designs onto t-shirts. They will display the finished products at Keystone next Tuesday. These students are shown in the picture behind their projects. Mrs. Nancy T. Osborne, Computer Instructor at CA, is the advisor for the group.

I’m speaking with Julia Murphy, currently in Grade 8 at Carbondale Area. I asked Julia if she is excited to find out if their project wins and she said, “Yes, because this is my first time experiencing anything like this. It was hard work and took a lot of time, but it was fun. There are quite a few schools competing so I’m hoping we win an award.”

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late.
