Laura’s Lane

Laura’s Lane

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, Carbondale Area hosted a benefit basketball game featuring the faculty versus the Chargers’ varsity basketball team.  This event organized by Mrs. Michelle Rosler and Athletic Director Erik Larson was planned to help with medical expenses incurred by Laura Mauro, wife of faculty member, Thomas Mauro who was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer.  Baskets were raffled, t-shirts were sold, donated goods were provided at concession, dollar mid-court shots were taken, and a packed gymnasium cheered on the faculty as they attempted to beat our Charger varsity basketball team.  The committee is shown in the picture presenting the check to Mr. and Mrs. Mauro.  We at CA live by the motto “Once a Charger, Always a Charger.” That motto was never more evident than it was at this fundraiser.  $5856 was raised to help defray the costs of Mrs. Mauro’s treatments.  I’m speaking with Madison Mushensky who participated in the hula hoop competition and the half-court shot challenge.  I asked Madison what she thought of the night and she said, “It was so awesome to see everyone come together as a family and a community to help one of our own.  The energy was high; the Charger Spirit was shining brightly; and the positive vibes were overwhelming.”
